Unzip Me Wins Fifth In Row, Captures Great Lady M.
Hollywoodpark.com INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 21, 2010)-Never
menaced at any point, Unzip Me continued her hot streak with an easy victory in
the $74,230 Great Lady M. Stakes on Friday night at Hollywood Park.
Owned by breeders John Harris and Don Valpredo, Per Antonsen and trainer Marty
Jones, the daughter of City Zip and the Arazi mare Escape With Me has won five
in a row after wiring six opponents under jockey Joe Talamo.
The 9-10 favorite won for the seventh time in 12 starts. The $47,730 top prize
for the 4-year-old California bred increased her bankroll to $327,430.
In winning for the second time in three starts on the Hollywood Park turf
course, Unzip Me, under high weight of 124 pounds, essentially had the race
wrapped up after making a clear lead through a slow (23.74 seconds) opening
quarter mile.
This enabled her to have plenty left for the stretch run and she finished
swiftly, negotiating the last quarter of a mile in about 22 3/5 seconds. She ran
the six furlongs in 1:09.04.
Unzip Me, who has been worse than second only once in seven turf races while
winning five, paid $3.80, $2.80 and $2.60.
