JCH 2006 CAL CUP HANDICAP SELECTIONS
“I hope I break even 'cause I need the money"

Race 1: Held Over Again-- In Excess/Moscow Ballet cross going from a route to a sprint. Fresno County horse

Race 2: Wind Water—Tough campaigner, likes to win races.

Race 3: Tonco—Flying Continental/African Sky both stood at Harris Farms. Win % of concern, but distance no problem

Race 4: Somethingaboutlaura—Dominates here

Race 5: Moscow Burning —leading female Cal Bred money earner of all time, bred by Harris Farms and by Moscow Ballet. A lot to like, but wouldn’t take too low of a price as nearing end of her career and her best races may be behind her.

Race 6: Old Man River--Nice win percentage and may be on the way up.

Race 7: Spot the Diplomat-- See Spot run. I think he’ll be tough. Needs to catch Super Image (High Brite), but Spot has already been around 2 turns in a graded stakes and the 2 that finished ahead of him are pointed to Breeders Cup. Hope P Val can rate him a bit, but keep close to the pace and finish well.

Race 8: El Don—He has sure been a nice horse for Don and me. Not sure exactly how he’ll run today, but hoping for a big effort.

Race 9: Robador- Good luck to the Barbara Walters with this promising colt in a relatively short field.

Race 10: Cambiocorsa—Loves this course and distance and training well.

Race 11: Katispsublue-- Maybe can close in a race with a lot of speed.

"The Girl's 2006 Cal Cup Picks"
“There is no substitution for Luck!”

1st Race: 2-4-6 Two stallion off-springs in here. Hope the favorite comes in third

2nd Race: 3-5 Indian Chant proved himself in his last race, bullet work with Espinoza up. Mom is Ready will be in the mix

3rd Race: 1-6-7 Get two for one with the entry, and you can never overlook Unusual Heat Progeny. We put Tonco in as a remembrance of a great sire.

4th Race: 2-4-7 We like the fact that Nakatani’s up on the 4 again, after previous 2 ticket cashings. Can’t throw out favorite (Somethingaboutlaura) in this one, but Yearly Attitude should be up there as well.

5th Race: 2-4-6 Our sentimental favorite is Moscow Burning, but we feel she is probably ready for the breeding shed. Jill’s Sky is an interesting fit in this race. You cannot overlook Special Heather, after 3 straight wins at close to this distance.

6th Race: 1-2-8 Sherry finally picks a gray in Buck Tuddy Buck! Areyoutalkintome should win, but Da Stoops has been in the money solidly for the last year.

7th Race: 2-3-4 Gotta love Spot here, but we think Swiss Ski will be in the exotic money. Super Image should be able to handle the distance.

8th Race: 3-5-11 El Don and Super Strut seem to like battling each other. Unfurl the Flag will factor in as well.

9th Race: 4-8-9 We’re still kicking ourselves for NOT picking Texcess last year and won’t make that mistake again. At 6-1 morning line, ya gotta love Cheroot, Top This and That is also a good bet.

10th Race: 3-5-7 Although favorites, there’s too much to like about Allswellthatnswell and Cambiocorsa. River’s Prayer has two good works and should be in the money if she can keep her jockey.

11th Race: 1-7-10 Sherry loves Katispsublue’s sire, cannot discount Romance Is Diane and Mitchell off a claim with PVal up. For some added value, Excessive Tale.

“STUDY LONG, YER GONNA BET WRONG”

#1……..HIGH EENA….Should be closing like a freight train, so say Hello.

#2 MOM IS READY….Every one is happy when Momma’s happy, and Mom Is Ready.

#3 PHAR TO WIN…..Very simple, should win by far.

#4 SOMETHINABOUTLAURA…..Something about this filly is special she should win easily.

#5 JANZIG MOON………Was closing fastest in her latest, could prove difficult with the price and attempt to beat a solid favorite

#6 DEBONAIR JOE…….Lets get chancy here; give the old favorite horse of many valley players the nod.

#7 SPOT THE DIPLOMAT….Very solid, great effort in the Norfolk, been two turns, should easily prevail.

#8 EL DON………….Experienced a mid life crisis up north, but has shaken that, hoping he hangs tough.

#9 TOP THIS AND THAT….Great try at Fairplex, this is a comparable group.

#10 CAMBIOCORSA…….What’s there to say, this is her course, her trip, her race. Applaud a champ.

#11 KISS THE COOK……That’s what’s mom always told me, and unless it’s Emeril or Mario, I do.
