April 21, 1999 COALINGA, CA – Two of Harris Farms and their partners’ superstars, Soviet Problem and Work The Crowd (foal photo here), recently foaled at the farm.Soviet Problem (Moscow Ballet – Nopro Blama by Dimaggio) delivered a dark bay/brown colt by In Excess on April 15th. Soviet Problem won 15 of 20 lifetime starts, 11 of them stakes victories, and had earnings in excess of $950,000. She was the California Bred horse of the year (1994), Sprinter (1994), Turf Horse (1994), Champion 3 year old filly (1993), and the 1993 Valkyr Award recipient. She was the nations’ highest weighted female sprinter on the Daily Racing Form Free Handicap in 1994, the year she was beaten a head in the Breeders Cup by Cherokee Run.
She currently has a 2 year old colt by Seattle Slew named Downtown Seattle, and a yearling chestnut filly by Arazi. She will be bred to Avenue of Flags in 1999. Soviet Problem is owned by Harris Farms, Inc. of Coalinga, California and Donald Valpredo of Bakersfield, California.
Work The Crowd (Political Ambition-Katambera, by Flag Officer) delivered a dark bay/brown filly by In Excess on April 16th. Work The Crowd is a graded stakes winner of 14 races and $644,550. She was the Cal bred champion 2 year old filly (1993), champion 3 year old filly (1994) and Turf horse (1995). She currently has a 2 year old filly, Work The Room by Moscow Ballet, and a yearling colt by Theatrical. She will be bred to Smokester in 1999. Work The Crowd is co-owned by Harris Farms and Senator Ken Maddy of Sacramento, California
